Although in the long history of this commensal rodent living around human the once widely spread (and blamed for causing the most feared and devastating human disease Bubonic Plague) the Black Rat (Rattus Rattus) had been largely outnumbered by the Common Rat (Rattus Norvegicus). So much so that Black Rats nowadays only be found in large ports. The main difference is their natural behaviour: Black Rats are originated in forested areas and they feel at home up high and their bigger, more adaptable relatives the Brown Rats natural burrowers and can be found from gardens to sewers. Due to this not too pleasant fact Brown Rats can deliver Salmonella, Weil’s disease, Tuberculosis and other potentially deadly diseases if they contaminate your food or leave their urine mark on surfaces.
Signs of infestation:
Loud scratching noise or squeaking under the floor and behind walls
Large dark droppings
Damaged food or food packaging
Sharp ammonic smell
Preparation and treatment:
Rat infestation is not the thing one should take lightly! They are bigger, stronger than mice, excellent climbers and can jump several times of their body length.
They have no control of their bladder therefore they urinate as they walk so the risk of air borne diseases carried by them is very high even in low level of infestation.
They need water so if they deprived from water source they gnaw water pipes.
They need larger holes to enter into above floor areas so if anything is on the way they go through it, let it be electrical cable, pipe, floorboard, almost anything…that potentially means risk of fire, flood, substantial damage in appliances and the building structures.
They are intelligent, seemingly know how to avoid traps; have a genetically driven behaviour of being cautious of new items or food and sadly DIY poisoning is the main cause of the clinically proven resistance in rat population in ever growing area of UK.
And above all if you choose to put some poison down only or choose pest control simply by price without asking what includes in that price you end up a never ending circle of rat re-infestation, the renewed risks and the horrendous smell of living/dead rats, scratching again and again…
But if you choose Pest Assassin you get not just the experience and knowledge of a professional pest control technician but you get the passion and drive in finding the source of infestation or in plain English: how those rats got into my property in the first place! And after finding it you also get the skills of a builder who is not afraid to climb into sewers or sort out any defect you might have in your building and allowed rats to enter without being noticed until it is too late. With Pest Assassin you get your rat nightmare sorted within weeks and they never come back because we eliminate all risk factors can cause problem in the future.
